"This picture originally illustrated a whimsical story about an obnoxious man who gets turned into a turkey by a witch he foolishly crosses and ends up as his family's Christmas dinner. The commission came in a slack period and as there was no fierce deadline Anderson allowed himself to get carried away. For him it was quite a large picture with far more detail than anything he had previously attempted. The editor was 'over the moon' about it and paid ten guineas over the agreed price (for some quaint reason publishers still paid illustrators in guineas then). It was later quite successful as a Big O Poster."
