"Anderson loves making up names for characters like this sea witch who appears in his own story A Mouse's Tale. Her hobby is wreaking ships and shrinking drowned sailors to put bottles, but when the hero steals her magic ring the tables are turned and that is exactly where she ends up."

Wayne Anderson, Nellie Knowall
"This picture originally illustrated a whimsical story about an obnoxious man who gets turned into a turkey by a witch he foolishly crosses and ends up as his family's Christmas dinner. The commission came in a slack period and as there was no fierce deadline Anderson allowed himself to get carried away. For him it was quite a large picture with far more detail than anything he had previously attempted. The editor was 'over the moon' about it and paid ten guineas over the agreed price (for some quaint reason publishers still paid illustrators in guineas then). It was later quite successful as a Big O Poster."

Wayne Anderson, Miss Mint of the Flying Mints
Scanned from the book "Through a Looking Glass, The Pictures of Wayne Anderson". 1992.
"In The Magic Circus the performers, at one point, have to try and entertain the determinedly unamusable Dr. Growser who has captured them. Here Miss Mint is performing an aerial dance on the back of a passing bee. When Growser loudly cracks his knuckles the bee lurches and she falls off. 'Next!', he says dourly."
